5 Minute Bike Maintenance (important part)

PART: Wheel
CHECK FOR: Trueness
HOW?: While spinning the wheel, watch the distance between the rim and the brake pad. It should be uniform for the entire rotation. If it wobbles, the wheel needs truing.
ON YOUR NEXT RIDE: Your wobbly wheel won't lead to more serious problems, such as a shudder while descending or brake pads rubbing.

PART: Brakes
CHECK FOR: Grit on the pads, caliper alignment
HOW?: If your brakes feel gritty, clean the pads with a rag and degreaser; replace pads if the grooves are worn more than 50 percent compared with new pads. Calipers are aligned if the pads are equidistant from the rim.
ON YOUR NEXT RIDE: You won't go to grab the levers only to roll right through the stop sign at the bottom of the hill.

PART: Tire
CHECK FOR: Low tire pressure, embedded glass, slices in the tire or sidewall
HOW?: Inflate tires to proper pressure, and carefully remove embedded debris with tweezers. A cut tire or sidewall is prone to a blowout and shouldn't be ridden; replace it.
ON YOUR NEXT RIDE: Your chances of flatting will greatly decrease, and you may have prevented a nasty midride blowout.

BIKE WASHING TIPS FROM THE PROS

1) Cut off the top of a plastic water bottle. Fill it with a water-based degreaser and place it in your seat-tube bottle cage. Then, use a paintbrush to apply the degreaser to the chain. Finish by holding a soapy sponge around the chain and turning the cranks.

2) Give your frame and fork a layer of car wax. It is better using car wax because it restores the paint's luster and keeps road tar and bugs from sticking.

3) Clean a grimy cassette or freewheel: Remove the wheel, and lay it flat with cogs up. Remember, there is no need to rotate the wheel, this is due to the freewheels will keeps the cogs moving.

4) Every 100km, especially if you often to ride in wet conditions, wipe your rims with a dry cloth. This is because braking is causing aluminum rims to oxidized, which can cause brake pad to

contaminated.
Remember : Better effects are using natural Tampico bristle brushes. Unlike nylon ones, they don't hold dirt, grease, or oil. Rinse the grime out of the bristles before moving on to the next part, and you can attack a filthy drivetrain and a mud-spattered frame with the same brush.

3 EASY WAYS TO KEEP YOUR BIKE BETTER
1) Clean and grease your seatpost
    - Mark your seat's height with a piece of tape by wrapping the tape around the post right where it
       meets the frame.
    - Remove the post and wipe it off with a clean rag.
    - Jam that rag down into the seat tube as far as you can and pull it out.
    - Smear some grease inside the seat tube and slide the post back into the frame up to the tape line.
    - Tighten the clamp

2) Lube your bottom bracket's cable guide.
That little trough that your derailleur cables glide onto needs some attention. Otherwise it gets
gummy from your sports drink and crusty from road grime, both of which contribute to the evil
friction that disrupts the casual flow of a precise cable adjustment.

  3) Wipe off that disgustingly gooey chain
      - Must dealing with neglect disguised as proper care or your bike will get dirtier. Adding
lubrication in between the side plates and under the center roller. Lube any place else serves no
positive purpose. Unless you consider a grotesquely embarrassing mess a positive.
